Howl2GO Dueling Pianos on ABC Chicago News
World’s Largest Block Party @ Old St Pat’s Church, Chicago
We were thrilled to be invited to perform at the 34th annual “World’s Largest Block Party” at Chicago’s Old St Pat’s Church on June 23rd. As part of our performance, we were also asked to perform live on ABC and NBC morning news broadcasts. At 4:00 am, Rachel, Wes & Tommy made our way to Old St Pat’s Church where we met up with the production crews of the news stations and set up our instruments on the stage.
After a couple of days of rain in the windy city, we were fortunate that the morning was dry! After a briefing of what songs we were going to play and when the cameras were rolling! Father Tom Hurley of Old St Pat’s was interviewed live about the event and explained how, after 34 years the Block Party was bigger and better than ever! Record numbers of people had turned out on Friday night despite the inclement weather. This year, Father Tom explained, the planning committee really aimed to make the event more family-friendly by opening the gates earlier than in past years and providing more activities for families and those coming out with children.
This year, the event was spread over 2 days, June 22nd & June 23rd. Other artists on the same bill included staples of the Chicago live music scene, Maggie Speaks. Awesome cover bands Mike & Joe and Seventh Heaven also drew big crowds. Dave Matthews Tribute show Trippin’ Billies finished out the Saturday night show complete with horn section and a stellar violin player – performing all the hits that are loved by so many.
