Get Your Kicks on Route 66
Berwyn is known as the “City of Homes,” but according to WILD Berwyn is “nothing like a suburb.” Berwyn has a growing arts community with a professional equity theater, an Arts Council, and top notch music and entertainment venues. The city is divided into four main business districts full of energy and culture. Roosevelt Road is an entertainment and dining destination with nationally known live music venues like FitzGerald’s Nightclub and Wire and juke-joints serving up everything from country and rock to jazz and blues. Once known as the “Bohemian Wall Street” due to a large number of savings and loans located here, Berwyn’s Cermak Road is now an eclectic mix of retail and restaurants including Home Run Inn and green energy powerhouse Cermak Plaza. Berwyn’s quaint, walkable city center extends across both sides of the Metra Line with a mix of independent shops, restaurants and lounges and access to parks. Enjoy great food and nightlife at stops like The Outtaspace, Olive or Twist Martini Bar and The James Joyce Irish Pub. Ogden Avenue is Berwyn’s stretch of Historic Route 66 – the Mother Road – designed for automobiles when the car was king of American culture. Today Rte 66 is celebrated at the Berwyn Route 66 Gift Shop, with scenic byway exhibits, at the annual Berwyn Route 66 Car Show, at local haunts like Cigars & Stripes BBQ Lounge, Michael Anthony’s Pizzeria and Paisans Pizzeria & Bar or just around the corner with live music at Harlem Avenue Lounge.
